I’m so passionate about helping people understand and achieve this that I recently wrote an entire book about it, Nervous Energy: Harness the Power of Your Anxiety. But the good news is: This type of seemingly negative energy can actually give you an edge when it comes to success. If any of these scenarios feel even remotely familiar, you could be dealing with a crushing dose of what I call nervous energy. Drawing that same illustration a third time to get it to look exactly the way you want but ultimately ripping the page out of your sketchbook, frustrated and, well, over it. That letter was rejected with his sexy, trademark smirk and an “I highly suggest you read the fine print of your contract…”Īnd now I’ve realized that unless I fake my death, poison him, or find a way to renegotiate my impossible contract, I’m stuck working under one of the cockiest and most ruthless bosses in New York. I wish his next executive assistant all the luck in the world (she’ll need it) and if my boss should need me to do anything over the next two weeks, kindly tell him that he can do it goddamn self… This was a VERY EASY decision to make, as the past two years have been utterly miserable. I am writing this letter to formally announce my resignation from Parker International (& the arrogant, condescending CEO) effective two weeks from today. ![]() ![]() They just make me feel things, she makes me feel things and isn’t that why we read these stories in the first place? To feel moved? To be inspired? Her words make me want to write, they make me want to dream, they make me weep. ![]() I don’t know a better way to explain any of her writing other than it comes across as both fantastical, amazing, and just…awe-inspiring. Mister Impossible by Maggie Steifvater Book Review ![]() ![]() ![]() The constant footnotes bothered me at the start as well, but I realized that this fit with Colin's character as well. While this wasn't really condemned neither by Colin or the narrative, it was a nice touch to explain him. His parents seem very nice and supportive, but of course telling a kid over and over that they are special and amazing and so much more than everyone else around them isn't gonna help them in the long run. I also liked that we really see where Colin gets this from, how he turned out like this. ![]() That was so refreshing, I feel the narrative far too often lets characters get away with shit like this without ever acknowledging them as bad. Part of his character and personality, sure, but still flaws. The things that are annoying about him are treated as FLAWS. The thing that made me like him though, was that the narrative doesn't treat him like this amazing person who is too good for everyone around him. He's, you know, self-absorbed, loves a bit too hard, and obsessed with being special and smart. The main character, Colin, is pretty annoying. It may not be super-realistic, but it was still pretty sweet and I'd like to think these kinds of things happen to people. I've heard it before, not never with characters this young. So this is the classic story of two people driving through a small-town and accidentally staying longer than they intended to. ![]() ![]() ![]() Other than that, Vi’s choices were smart and usually thoughtful. Why would she condemn the world to a thousand years of darkness? I didn’t get that, so every time she mentioned that this was the final attempt it rubbed me the wrong way a little. I liked Vi a lot, but I didn’t totally understand why she was so determined to make this the last time, whether she succeeded or not. Once way or another this vortex will end.
